Description
Our #1 MUST HAVE Off-GRID Necessity
As Luke and I set sail on our journey of independence and adventure, we find ourselves drawn to the allure of life aboard a sailboat. Dreaming of boundless horizons and endless possibilities, we're eager to embrace the challenges and rewards of off-grid living on the water. Amidst the excitement of our upcoming voyage, one essential consideration looms large: freshwater. As sailors at heart, we understand the paramount importance of having a reliable source of clean water while navigating the world's oceans. In this video, we'll delve into why a watermaker is not just a luxury but the cornerstone of our off-grid lifestyle. From independence and sustainability to convenience and peace of mind, we'll explore the myriad benefits that a watermaker brings to those seeking to make the sea their home.
The benefits of having a watermaker on our off-grid sailboat:
Independence: As a couple seeking independence and the freedom to travel far on our sailboat, a watermaker is essential. It allows us to produce our own freshwater directly from seawater, eliminating the need to rely on shore-based facilities or marinas for refilling water tanks. This independence means we can venture into remote or off-grid locations without worrying about access to clean water, enhancing our sense of self-sufficiency and adventure.
Sustainability: With sustainability in mind, a watermaker offers an eco-friendly solution to our freshwater needs. Instead of relying on bottled water or collecting rainwater, which may not always be feasible or sufficient, a watermaker allows us to generate freshwater on-demand using renewable seawater resources. This reduces our environmental impact and minimizes plastic waste associated with disposable water bottles, aligning with our desire for a more sustainable lifestyle on the sea. This however is not 100% waste free rather! On the contrary, it is a way to reduce the impact and use of plastic bottles. Watermakers require maintenance, and filters which there is no way around. However, we will explore different ways we can maintain, maximize and clean our filters to get the most out of them.
Convenience: Having a watermaker onboard your sailboat makes life more convenient and hassle-free. You no longer need to worry about rationing water or conserving limited freshwater supplies during long journeys. With the ability to produce freshwater whenever needed, you can enjoy creature comforts like showers, doing dishes, or even washing laundry without limitations. This convenience enhances your overall living experience aboard your sailboat, making it feel more like a comfortable and sustainable home on the water.
